Cat's Cradle
Ok, so this book is ok to read. Its not hard and is very entertaining. So, I found that this book is saying that people have different backgrounds and that affects them. For example, the woman and the doghouse blueprints. The author shows her a blueprint of a doghouse that she wants. She says that she does not understand it but prior she claims to know everything about God. People are hypocrites for some of the things we say. But its ok. its how we are brought up with a mind set that they know everything. But really they don't even know how to work a toaster. Everyone is different have different ways of expressing themselves. Also, chaos will never end. Things get more tangled up and worse. This is evident when the father plays with a string and makes a cat's cradle. The process never ends and more shapes are formed. With so many things going on now, it is no wonder that things are getting worse and we are just digging ourselves a deeper hole. Things become more complex when you just add to the mix. This can be seen when you are in a business. If you too many workers, you start to lose money and profit. Also, when the two brothers were playing with fighting bugs, "the bugs wouldn't fight unless the jar was shaken." This is true with people. A person will not flip out unless someone provokes them. Like you say a minor critical statement (teasing) to your sibling. They flip out and get really upset. It may not be towards you but because you said something critical, they get upset. Its a cause and affect thing. Someone will get upset when you provoke them. So those are some of the things I saw that were postmodernism related. Thanks for reading my post. : )

Okay well this was interesting. :)
ReplyDeletei agree with all of your ideas, especially the one about the woman. By showing that analogy the reader is opened to a totally different side and the view of bokononism is proven by showing that the lady contradicts what she says. But i also believe that the analogy is also proof of an individuals true beliefs and morals. For instance, she may not even be able to read the blueprint of the doghouse and is ignorant about it but when it comes to her belief in God she is a firm believer and even if it isn't true she will remain faithful. So i also thought that was interesting about that chapter in Cat's Cradle. Over all i liked all of your relations to postmodernism and i learn more and more on this theory just by reading others people's ideas. Good job. :)
Good job Connie, your post was very insightful. I completely agree with you that people are affected by their backgrounds. A similar affect that most people share is that they think they know anything, which was another good point of yours. The women knows about as much about God's plans for everyone as my kitty kat does, who is currently grooming herself on the end of my bed =^-^=. And yes, every person is a hypocrite. Why? Because no one is perfect. So anyone who says "Man, I hate hypocrites" is also a hypocrite, so they hate themselves, lol. Okay that was kind of stupid. Anyway, I also liked the point you made about chaos. The world is formed around chaos, and if it was settled, life wouldn't exist. We need chaos to make any sense out of anything. Like the chaos of working a toaster, lol. The cause and effect thing you pointed out was very interesting as well. Stuff happens because of provokation (I don't think that's a word O-o). Chaos and cause and effect tie into each other. Chaos is constant, but when something happens, the effect puts meaning to the chaos... or something like that. I liked your blog Connie, you made it very interesting to read.
